Black History Month
Black History Month
Emily’s House and Philip Aziz Centre acknowledge and celebrate Black History Month and encourage our staff, volunteers, and our communities to take this time to listen, learn and discuss.
Every February, people across our nation participate in Black History Month events and festivities that honour the legacy of Black people in Canada and their communities. We will be sending you some of these legacies of excellence specifically in healthcare in the coming week.
The 2023 theme for Black History Month is: “Ours to tell.” This theme represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the stories Black communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices and triumphs.
At EH and PAC we are committed to achieving and sustaining an environment, where everyone feels they belong, and where their contributions are valued, diversity respected, and voice heard and honoured in a safe space.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
“The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it’s the only way forward.” – Ijoema Oluo
