Care for Kids (Toronto) Celebrated: A Grand Sendoff Starring Dr. Adam Rapoport
Congratulations to Michelle Goldstein and Care for Kids (Toronto) for a beautiful celebration of Dr. Adam Rapoport and his career in paediatric palliative care… so far. There are many more milestones yet to come, as Dr. Adam reminded us all, but he is certainly off to a great start! He continues to be part of the vision forward for Emily’s House children’s hospice.
It was a memorable evening to mark the 15 years Dr. Adam served as Medical Director for the Paediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) at Sick Kids. Dr. Sarah Lord, who replaces him as Medical Director at PACT, gave a thoughtful tribute. Colleagues and friends created a fun and meaningful video where Dr. Kevin stole the show, of course. Beth Hill, an Emily’s House mom, shared her family’s personal journey and the impact of care on her son and family.
Michele Goldstein and Care for Kids (Toronto) have been supporting Dr. Adam over 15 years, since he was a fellow working on his studies. It was a tender moment to see them acknowledge one another at this special re-carpet occasion.
Great to see many friends of Emily’s House from over the years, including: Lindsey and Paul Yeskoo, parents of our Emily; Rauni Salminen, CEO, Emily’s House/PAC; Rick Firth, President and CEO of Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO); Nadine Persaud, Executive Director, Kensington Hospice; as well as members of the PACT and Emily’s House teams.
Thank you to Care for Kids (Toronto) for fundraising and donating generously to Emily’s House children’s hospice … even before the vision was fully formed. We appreciate and celebrate you!
In 1991, very few health care organizations in Canada would even use the words “paediatric palliative care.” At that time, Care for Kids (Toronto) started fundraising in support of paediatric palliative care at the then Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and dreamed of a place like Emily’s House children’s hospice.
Since those early days, Care for Kids (Toronto) has been a lead annual supporter, raising funds for children’s palliative for our Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care, and later for our Emily’s House. They donated a new hospital bed for our children’s hospice during the Emily’s House 10-year anniversary celebrations; and were an Emily’s House/Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care year-end Gift Match Patron for several years, multiplying the impact of their giving. More recently, proceeds from their 2024 fundraising efforts donated $32,000 towards compassionate hospice care programming and services for children and their families at Emily’s House and through Emily’s House at Home. We are extremely grateful that in 2025, Care for Kids (Toronto) made a three-year leadership gift pledge to Emily’s House Clinical Programs for quality nurse education and the strategic medical vision in paediatric palliative care for the path ahead.
Without organizations like Care for Kids (Toronto), Emily’s House children’s hospice may have remained a dream and not have turned into the reality it is today. We thank them and their donors for their ongoing support.
