Child Life in the Garden
In the cold January, we all want to be transported back to summer gardening…
The Child Life Garden Club was an inclusive, sensory-rich initiative that successfully connected children of all abilities with the world of gardening. Designed to engage sight, touch, sound, and smell, the program ensured every child – regardless of ability – could participate meaningfully in hands-on garden experiences.
Flexible, adaptive activities allowed children to explore vibrant colors, feel diverse plant textures, listen to the natural soundscape, and enjoy the calming scents of herbs and flowers. Guided by our child life specialist and supported by dedicated volunteers and the recreation team, the club fostered curiosity, emotional expression, and social connection in a welcoming environment.
The project proved to be a surprising and heartwarming success, revealing exciting opportunities for growth … and future harvests.
