Emily’s 33rd Birthday in Heaven: A Note from Her Parents Lindsey and Paul
It is with hearts full of love and deep wonder that we remember the birth of our Emily 33 years ago today! Little did we know how the years would unfold, a journey from being a thriving and energetic young girl to suddenly being diagnosed at the age of 10 with a severe neuro-degenerative disease which swept over her so rapidly that by age 11 she could no longer walk, talk, eat, write, or do anything for herself. She was given weeks, months, at the most three years to live. Yet what an extraordinary life she lived until age 26, against all odds! The tales of her adventures and experiences need to be re-told. The faith and courage with which she approached all her daunting challenges needs to be further explored and expounded.
One of her greatest joys and honours was of course everything to do with Emily’s House. She was delighted to be the first one to give a donation before it was ever built. She was the first client to be welcomed once it was up and running. Nothing gave her more exhilaration than hearing that other children and their families were truly finding excellent care, and help, and a true sense of belonging there. She particularly cherished all her times of Play Therapy and Music Therapy, and the dear ones who took the time to come from Emily’s House to our home for her annual Birthday Parties.
But for now, today, her family and her wide community of friends and followers are remembering with love and awe the way “Our Purple Princess” changed our lives forever. Today is a snowy, wintry day, just as it was on the day she was born… and the red cardinals which she adored are still coming to visit!
Happy 33rd Birthday in heaven, Emily 💜🙏🏻
