Emily’s House Garden Memorial
Last weekend, our annual Emily’s House Garden Memorial was held in the green space below the patient bedrooms. Everyone who participated – those grieving, those supported by hospice, and those supporting hospice – were all reminded that Emily’s House is a source of deep joy, healing and resilience for these families and children throughout and long after a palliative care journey.
The event was once again a meaningful time for families, staff and volunteers to connect, reflect and remember loved ones who left us too soon. It was a beautiful sunny day. Stories and memories from parents were shared with a mix of tears, silences and laughter, interspersed with comforting music. The reading of all the names was followed by the placing of stones with each family’s child’s name on them, in Ava’s Garden. The very memorable and love-filled day was topped off with refreshments, desserts and confetti poppers.
