Emily’s House Participated in the Development of a New Model of Paediatric Palliative Care

Last year in our Philip Aziz Centre/Emily’s House Annual Report article from our Medical Director, Dr. Adam Rapoport, we mentioned that Emily’s House was participating in this special project to develop a new Hub and Spoke model of care:
The Compassionate Care Act working group was an Ontario Pediatric Model of Care working group. The Compassionate Care Act called for a Framework for Palliative Care in Ontario. The Framework, in turn, required models of care to be developed to guide palliative care across the province. It was decided that three models would be developed for: (1) adults in the community, (2) adults in hospital, and (3) children in all settings. Kim Daffern, Manager of Clinical Programs, for Emily’s House was a member of the Pediatric Model of Care working group and Dr. Adam Rapoport, Medical Director, Emily’s House and Paediatric Advanced Care Team, SickKids Hospital, was the Chair. Our model of care was just officially released on October 9th!

Congratulations to our Emily’s House representatives for contributing to innovations in palliative care in Ontario!
