Grace’s parents, Amy and Chris Manning, are planning another Hockey for Grace, and reflect on the last ten years….
“I don’t know how we got to 10. Honestly, when we arrived home without Grace, I didn’t know how we would make it through the day. It wasn’t easy. The world seemed so dark and unfair. But we made it. At first, it was minute by minute which turned to hour, then day. The weight always there but as time went on it became something we could carry. People often say, “I can’t imagine” or “You’re so strong”. We can’t imagine either, even now some days it just hits me, we had a baby and she died. Some days it seems like a dream and others it is very present. Some days we feel strong; forging this world, creating a legacy, finding joy in the ways she says “hello.” And then other days, our world falls apart and I beg for just one more minute. I wish I could be back in those 8 days she was here, even knowing how it all ends. That’s the thing about grief, about loving someone with your whole heart. They’re with you forever. The grief, the memories, the smiles, the tears, the memories, the hurt, the love.”
