Robert Kerr Foundation:
Acute End-of-Life Care for Children and Wrap-Around Supports for Their Families at Emily’s House Children’s Hospice
In the GTA, there are: communities who are underserved by hospice care; caregivers for whom no relief is in sight; and children with complex care needs who do not get connected to care early enough. Timely access to hospice care is a priority. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, Access to Palliative Care in Canada, 2023: “In 2021–2022, only 58% of those who died in Canada and would benefit from palliative care received it. And many who do receive palliative care, don’t receive it early enough.” Our special thanks go to the Robert Kerr Foundation for grant funding for paediatric palliative care at Emily’s House children’s hospice, and specifically for children who are medically fragile and in need of advanced palliative care.
