Xenia Concert Outing from the Emily’s House Explores Series

As part of the Emily’s House Explores series, live concert outings are one of the community destination options for children and families. These concerts are intentionally relaxed. They welcome families with children and youth with complex needs, and create an environment where families feel comfortable to come and go. To appeal to shorter attention spans, these concerts are also shorter.
Between songs, performers engage the audience with conversation, and after the performance, children are invited to meet and “pet” a cello!
For all three Emily’s House families who participated in the first concert outing, it was their first time attending a live concert with their child. One family will now go to Xenia concerts on their own. And another family would like to return for a concert with the Emily’s House team for the next concert outing in the community. In the year ahead, destinations include Xenia, Mirvish, and Roy Thompson Hall Relaxed Concerts.
Anyone who has been to a live concert can appreciate the immersive experience of ensemble music, and this is available to our children and youth, as they venture out into the community with peers and family, supported by a music therapist and Emily’s House away team.
Bravo!!! Encore!
