Emily’s House Children’s Hospice Receives Grant from Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Foundation
(TORONTO – June 19, 2019) — The MDRT Foundation has awarded a USD 5,000 grant to Emily’s House, Toronto’s first paediatric residential hospice, and only the sixth of seven in Canada, caring for the special needs of children living with a life-limiting illness.
Through its global grants programs, the MDRT Foundation is committed to building stronger families and communities around the globe. This year, the MDRT Foundation will award over $1 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to more than 200 charitable organizations worldwide.
Representing the MDRT Foundation, James Burton, of PPI Financial Group, will present this grant cheque to Emily’s House on June 19, 2019, representing the grant application sponsor, MDRT Member, Jeffrey Dawson, of Jeffrey Dawson Insurance Agencies Limited. “Thank you to the MDRT Foundation, Jeffrey Dawson, and James Burton,” writes Rauni Salminen, C.E.O., Emily’s House and the Philip Aziz Centre for Hospice Care. “Your support helps make a special place like Emily’s House an important part of paediatric palliative care, and creates a home for families who trust in our care.”
For six years, Emily’s House has been meeting increasingly-complex care demands, while providing timely access to children’s palliative programs. To extend the resources of the clinical, therapeutic and front-line care team, trained hospice volunteers are vital to delivering these children’s programs. MDRT Foundation funding will: contribute to volunteer training and retention; extend capacity for care delivery by the clinical / staff team; and, offer greater access to recreation, play and music programs. As one Emily’s House parent shared about the children’s programming: “[My daughter] sparkles. She is lifted out of the world of palliative care. It enables her to soar above it all, in that little pocket of time.”
